Review: LilaJo Hair Flowers

I discovered LilaJo a few months ago when searching desperately for a place I could purchase hair accessories from in between Pinup Girl Clothing Orders. Pinup Couture has some fabulous hair roses that I can't live without, but I needed a place I could order from solely for hair accessories.

Some of the keywords that caught my eye on LilaJo's website were the words "pinup" and "flat". Here's why: unless hair accessories are targetted at a pinup/rockabilly audience, they often don't have the colours, fit and style that go so well with the pinup look. And "flat" excited me, as it meant the flowers would sit flat to my head instead of poking out awkwardly. The last thing you want when adding a lovely hair flower is having it flap about because it doesn't sit right, and you should never be able to see the clip that holds the flower in place - this should be hidden by the fit of the flower.

I ordered these little beauties, and squeeled when my package arrived. The value is amazing (just $9.00 for that big pretty red rose, say what?!) considering the fit and quality of the flowers.

They sit flat to your head, as promise, and the clip holds them snuggly in place and never gets caught in your hair when you go to remove it.

Many of them come with cute little details in the middle, like jewels or hearts, which adds to their endless charm.

As you can see, they enhance any outfit and give it a gorgeous pinup flare:

These can be purchased at http://lilajo.com/, or via her Etsy store at http://www.etsy.com/shop/LilaJo . She makes one offs (like the sailor anchor daisy pictured above) as well as duplicates, like her popular roses and her dahlia flowers (my personal favourites).

Five out of five stars!

Review: Cigarette Pants in Red Twill by Deadly Dames of Pinup Girl Clothing

Pants are a difficult one for me. My waist is a fair bit smaller than my hips, leading to awkward fits and gaps in the back of my jeans. It drives me crazy! I very rarely order pants online for this reason.

I took a chance with Deadly Dames first round of cigarette pants in black cotton sateen, pictured below:

I found that it stretched out in the back, leaving my bum with a very unattractive sag. So I dried them (big no no), and they shrunk. Then I sat down, and they tore. And I banged my head against the wall. My fault, not the pants, but they are definitely not for me.

Then Deadly Dames released a new version of the pants in an updated fabric: stretch twill. I ordered them again and kept my fingers crossed during my entire week long wait for them to arrive, just hoping they would fit well. They did!

The twill is soft and supple, and molds around my curves like no other pants have. The fabric is top quality, as with almost all of Pinup Girl Clothing's pieces. The red is akin to the red of the Heidi Dress, or the Deadly Dames Red Lace Top.

The fabric is thin enough to wear comfortably during spring, but thick and stretchy enough to suck you in where it counts.

I will say however, that popping some shapewear under these babies may do your curves more justice than wearing the pants alone. As you can see, from the side I have a bit of a pooch going on. Certainly less than other high waisted pants that I've worn (thank you stretchy fabric!) but I wouldn't be going out for giant steak and potatoes whilst working these. Nor would I slouch. Pants that sit on the waist like these will always create a bit of a pooch - it's the nature of the beast, but oh-so-worth it!

I missed out on these in black stretch twill, but when they are restocked, they will be mine.

Conclusion: Love! 5 out of 5 stars.

Review: Pinup Girl Clothing Sheer Head Scarf

If you're like me, online shopping beats all else. In our online haven of pinup goodness, however, vintage headscarves are hard to find. Etsy has a few stores that sell them, but often time they come with frayed edges or stains, if the colours you want are available at all.

Pinup Girl Clothing announced last year that they would be releasing vintage reproduction head scarves, and I think half the online world squealed with happiness along with me.

These things are the real deal! I've only ordered one thus far, in red, to test the quality. Now I regret ordering just one - I want them in every colour!

The scarf on the left is a vintage headscarf. On the right is Pinup Girl Clothing's reproduction - and it is spot on. There is literally no difference between the two!

They are available in red, black, blue, white and baby pink. I have vintage head scarves in black and pink, but I will soon be replacing them with Pinup Girl Clothing's reproduction.

I can only hope they will release them in every colour of the rainbow - a lavender to match all their latest lavender pieces would be fabulous.

Rimmel London Kate Moss Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick Review

About a month ago I started looking into matte red lipsticks. As the weather grows cooler I find mattes just work better with the muted grey sky and chilly nights ahead.

After a quick browse, I found Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss and fell in love instantly. I already wear Rimmel's Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in shade 01, and this is definitely it's sexy sister line.

I am wearing shade 111 - Kiss of Life

This lipstick is creamy and applies smoothly. I wouldn't call it long lasting - it holds up only a little longer than any other lipstick. Also, it is a little shiner than your average matte. That being said, the colour is to die for - somewhere between a true red and a cool red, and the smooth finish makes this my everyday red lipstick. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

Clothing Review - Jayne Dress by Pinup Couture of Pinup Girl Clothing

The minute the Jayne Dress hit pinupgirlclothing.com, I was in love. Deeply in love. Like, this dress may replace my husband in love (well, not quite that far, but pretty close). I already owned the Jenny dress (review on the Jenny dresses and skirts coming soon!) and knew the bodice would feature the same luscious structure and boning. I waitlisted and ordered it the moment it hit the site.

It didn't disappoint. The boning gives it this delicious structure that sucks you in, in all the right places. As you can see, the boning helps the dress retain it's gorgeous bust-line even without you in it!

The color is cotton candy pink and gorgeous. It comes with adjustable strapes, which means it can accomodate a range of bust sizes.

And as you can see, it's lined with a luxurious satin. It glides over the skin like the most delicate of silks, and feels oh-so-sexy!

If this dress doesn't make you feel like a woman, no dress will. Does wonders for the bum, too ;)

The verdict: I love it, BUT I need to tailor it to fit me correctly. My measurements are 36-25-36 (inches), and the waist is very loose on me. I wore it for a photoshoot over the weekend, and had to pull it taut throughout the shoot. This is not the dress' fault, but if you have a smaller waist or an hourglass shape like me, proceed with caution - make sure you have money set aside to tailor this hot little number!

Glitter and Leopard and Lace, Oh My! - Cute Clutches at Colette

So, I'm originally from the U.S. The first accessory store I found here was Diva, and later Equip, and both were... lacking. We are spoilt for choice in the good ol' U.S. of A., and these teenybopper stores just weren't doing it for me (though they do have cute finds from time to time). Then I found Colette, and I was in love. In my opinion, the items are higher quality, the choices are for a more mature market, and, let's be honest, the stores are better decorated.

Speaking of spoilt for choice, the current range of clutches is amazing, and with 50% off jewelry and 25% off handbags at the moment, who wouldn't want to stock up on some clutchy fabulousness?

I am in love with the following:

Not only are the above clutches adorable, but they have severaly further options for each (because who doesn't want more to choose from when it comes to a hot leopard print clutch?).

I've already purchased a few in the past week. Hop on it ladies!

BooHoo.com - Hot Finds!

So I discovered BooHoo about a year ago, and I love it. Now, being a huge fan of vintage reproduction clothing (which is often very high quality) I can't vouch for BooHoo in this department -most pieces will last you for a few seasons, and that's it. Having said that - what's wrong with an everchanging wardrobe? They have everything from bodycon dresses to a-line skirts to high waisted jeans, and I love it all.

Some current faves that are in the mail and on their way (or already in my closet)!
